Free Pagan Training: Jan 8

Land of the Blur I met Dr. Peter Jones while part of a panel in San Diego for a book I contributed to called Listening to the Beliefs of Emerging Churches. One of the leading scholars on paganism and Gnosticism, I have enjoyed Dr. Jones' books over the years. Since we met, he has been kind enough to give some of his articles to Resurgence, allowing us to share his wise insights into the state of our current culture. On Tuesday, January 8, I am pleased to welcome Dr. Jones to Mars Hill's Ballard Campus for a series of free training events. (Though they are free, we would prefer that you register if you plan on attending.) The first session will be from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. It's meant for church leaders and will include a free lunch as well as a lecture from Dr. Jones on Romans 1. He will explain that the essence of paganism is confusing the Creator for the creation (when what God has made is worshiped over God Himself), which implicates everything from radical pantheistic environmentalism to sexual sin of varying sorts. Register for the daytime session. In the evening (7:00 pm) Dr. Jones will lecture on the Five Points of Paganism in a session geared toward the general public. Register for the evening session. Read more about Dr. Jones' background and experience at theresurgence.com.

It's All About Jesus

Jesus was a man who claimed to be God. Think on that for a minute. If that were true, how would it change the way you thought, felt, and lived this life?

At Mars Hill, we believe that Jesus is God. We take him at his word. Because of this, everything we do is all about Jesus. We invite you to learn more about this man who is God and how you can find forgiveness and new life in him.

What to Expect

Visiting a church for the first time can be nerve-racking. But having an idea of what to expect can help. There are three main parts to every Sunday service: preaching, worship, and kids. To learn more about each of these, click the links below.

The Mars Hill Guide Leadership at Mars Hill

We value community

Church is more than a service. It’s people living life together and helping one another throughout our cities to serve our cities. Each week, thousands of people at Mars Hill meet in hundreds of small communities to learn about God, pray, eat, laugh, and live. We call these Community Groups—and they’re the heart of our church.

Jesus is the most generous person who ever lived. He gave his life so that we might live. As Christians, we give our time, talent, and money joyfully in response to Jesus’ generosity and to help more people meet Jesus.
