What to Expect

What's a Service Like?

Have questions about Mars Hill Church? Looking for a particular ministry? Looking to get connected? The Mars Hill Guide is designed to easily help you find what you’re looking for and answer your questions. And if you can’t find what you’re looking for, we’re just an email or phone call away.

It’s all about Jesus

At Mars Hill, we’re all about Jesus—and the only way to get to know Jesus is to understand what the Bible says about him, which also includes what he said about himself.

Locations and services

Mars Hill is one church in many locations.  Each local church is led by qualified elders and deacons and dedicated to serving Jesus and people in the context of their local community.

Preaching

We preach Jesus

And while this might mean you’ll learn some things on how to be a better person, how to have a better marriage, or how to be more fulfilled in life—that’s not really the point. Because without Jesus, nothing matters. It’s because of Jesus that we can be a better person. Only Jesus can make a marriage better. And true fulfillment is only found in Jesus. This means we teach from the Bible, because the Bible is all about Jesus. Often we’ll go through whole books of the Bible, verse by verse, to show you what the whole Bible teaches and how it relates to Jesus.

The sermons are long. About an hour or so each. Yet, people keep coming. Why do we do this? Because the Bible tells us that faith comes by hearing the word of God, the Bible. So we want to preach as much of it as we can. All our sermons are online, so you can check out all this by giving a listen yourself.

Worship

There are earplugs in the back should you need them

Mars Hill music is loud, mostly rock and roll, and always about Jesus. God has blessed Mars Hill with talented musicians who love Jesus and serve his church through original music and fresh takes on old hymns. But more than just entertainment, our music is part of the way in which we prepare our hearts and minds to hear the word and to respond to that word. Also, as part of our worship, we take communion together and give offerings to support God’s work at Mars Hill. All in all, the atmosphere is casual, reflective, and open to all.

Mars Hill Kids

Helping parents raise kids who love Jesus

Mars Hill Kids is built around a simple concept: Jesus is the hero. Each Sunday, your child will learn the Bible and how it relates to Jesus in an age-appropriate way. The lessons are fun and approachable and taught by committed volunteers and staff who serve Jesus by serving you and your kids. We also seek to help equip parents to train their children in the gospel through resources like family guides for our lessons, weekly activity books, and resources for Community Group leaders. Ultimately, the goal of Mars Hill Kids is to get kids excited about Jesus and to get families talking about Jesus together throughout the week.

What to expect

Each Mars Hill church offers Mars Hill Kids at different times and services, so make sure to visit the webpage of the Mars Hill church nearest you for more details. When you walk in the door, you’ll see signage directing you to the Mars Hill Kids check-in area. Or you can ask one of the many volunteers serving that Sunday to direct you. At the check-in area, you’ll be greeted by a volunteer or staff member who will help you register your children on our church software called The City. You’ll be handed a sticker with your name, your child’s name, what class your child is in, and a pager that corresponds to the number on that sticker.

Security is important to us, so we have volunteer security officers at all Mars Hill Kids locations, and when you drop off and pick up your child, we’ll make sure the numbers on your pager and your child’s sticker match before admitting or dismissing them to or from class. After admitting your child to class, you can grab a cup of coffee or tea and head into worship. Your child will do some activities initially, then gather with all our kids to sing songs to Jesus, and then work through the lessons for the day. After the sermon is preached, we encourage parents to pick up their kids, bring them into service, take Communion as a family, and worship Jesus together.

Should you ever have questions, any member of our staff or our volunteers will be happy to help you! Also, if you have questions about Mars Hill Kids before attending a service, you can always contact any of the staff or pastors at your local Mars Hill church to find answers to those questions.

It's All About Jesus

Jesus was a man who claimed to be God. Think on that for a minute. If that were true, how would it change the way you thought, felt, and lived this life?

At Mars Hill, we believe that Jesus is God. We take him at his word. Because of this, everything we do is all about Jesus. We invite you to learn more about this man who is God and how you can find forgiveness and new life in him.

The Mars Hill Guide Leadership at Mars Hill

We value community

Church is more than a service. It’s people living life together and helping one another throughout our cities to serve our cities. Each week, thousands of people at Mars Hill meet in hundreds of small communities to learn about God, pray, eat, laugh, and live. We call these Community Groups—and they’re the heart of our church.

Jesus is the most generous person who ever lived. He gave his life so that we might live. As Christians, we give our time, talent, and money joyfully in response to Jesus’ generosity and to help more people meet Jesus.
