A Night of Prayer
September 25, 7 p.m.
What our cities need most from us is prayer. It’s the absolutely best thing we can do for our cities. Before, during, and after everything else we are doing in ministry, we are called to pray for our city.
A clear call to pray for the city comes in the words God spoke to his people when they were languishing in the godless metropolis of Babylon: “Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare” (Jer. 29:7).
The point is that we do not pray for ourselves alone and for our own worship and community as a church, but for everyone around us who needs the peace of God.
At Mars Hill Downtown Seattle, we desperately want to see God work in a huge way in Seattle so that lives, families, marriages, and legacies can be changed forever. This means we need to gather as a community and ask God to do something that only he can do.
Will you pray for the peace of Seattle Praying for our city means praying for its civic government—for the mayor, the City Council, and the people who work in all the government buildings around City Hall and serve us out on the streets of Seattle. It means praying for justice in our court system. It means praying for police officers to act righteously as they work for our safety and security.
Praying for the welfare of Seattle means praying for its economic progress—for those on the streets and those living in penthouse condos. It means praying for the well-being of our immigrants. It means praying for racial reconciliation in all the neighborhoods where some people can’t walk down the street without someone abusing them for being who they are. It means praying for the spiritual needs of people working in business, or politics, or education, or the arts. In means praying for all the children without a father and all the young people who are getting into trouble and don’t seem to have a chance in life.
The peace of the Holy Spirit for the city comes through prayer.
September 25, 7 p.m. at the Daniels Recital Hall (our new home) we will be asking everyone who cares for the future of the gospel of Jesus Christ in our city to gather with us for a night of prayer. We will pray, sing, and petition God to do an amazing work. Please join us!
