Many times the summer months at Mars Hill Church can be slow as people take their vacations and enjoy the rare sunny Seattle weekend, but Jesus continues to work on the hearts of our people and we rarely see a dip in the number of good stories across all 14 churches.
- A woman at Mars Hill Sammamish told a pastor she has struggled with her body image most of her life and has spent a good amount of money on cosmetic work. Recently, after seeing one of the Ethiopia videos where the pastor cried for those not yet saved in his country, the Holy Spirit convicted her of her sin and she repented. Before she could tell her husband of her experience, he confessed to her that he’d always treated their money as an idol and also repented. He wanted to give a large gift to the church that just so happened to be in the exact same amount she was ready to spend on cosmetic work. The Holy Spirit led both of them to repentance that day and they gave the money to the church as a thanksgiving offering to the Lord.
- A Latino couple has been going to Mars Hill Everett for the past month. They found the church because one of the Community Group leaders befriended them. The wife only speaks Spanish so her husband serves here by translating the sermon for her under his breath as it’s playing. It’s amazing to see him serve in this way. The church is working on getting an iPad with Spanish subtitled sermons so she can follow along with her husband.
- A man at Mars Hill Olympia was deployed overseas, but, due to his father’s failing health, was allowed to come home to care for him in what appears to be his final days. While he was in the hospital with his father, his wife came to church with her kids and happened to have her husband on speakerphone when she arrived. Pastor Seth was able to pray for him and his father’s salvation over the phone, as his father has been open to hearing about Jesus and the gospel.
- A man at Mars Hill Rainier Valley was baptized last year at the church’s barbecue and baptism event. They hadn’t seen him since last August but he finally came back to church last week. He said, “Something woke me up and told me to come to church today.” He enjoyed service so much that he said, “You guys will see me every Sunday from here on out!” It’s amazing to see the faithfulness of God in this young man.
We praise Jesus that he has given us the Holy Spirit to convict us of sin and lead us closer to him!
