Making disciples and planting churches.
We do this by
Mars Hill Church is a group of people whom Jesus has saved and sent to be missionaries. We come together as one giant family to worship Jesus in many locations at many times. Each week, you can expect singing, biblical preaching, and prayer.
We meet in multiple locations at multiple times on Sundays. Using satellite and internet technology we broadcast most sermons to our different locations. On other Sundays church elders will preach live at every church. This method of meeting allows the people of Mars Hill to grow in numbers and faith while staying in their own communities, being missionaries for Jesus there.
Over 12,000 people come each week to the 15 Mars Hill churches in the greater Seattle area, Oregon, California, New Mexico, and Arizona. The sermon is often preached live at one location, captured, and then broadcast at all churches on the following Sunday. Special events such as the Good Friday, Easter, and Christmas Eve services are broadcast live to all the churches via live streaming. Additionally, we utilize live streaming on Good Friday, Easter, and for special events like John Piper or D.A. Carson’s visits, to share the events with tens of thousands of people around the world.
We also publish all our sermons and other biblical teaching materials online and through podcasts. For every person who hears a sermon at a Mars Hill church, an estimated eight sermons are downloaded each week. In 2010, over 7 million sermons were downloaded from our website.
In between Sundays, a few thousand people meet by the dozen in homes, dorms, and apartments to discuss the sermon, read the Bible, pray for each other, have fellowship, relationship, accountability, and encourage each other in Christ. These Community Groups are the primary vehicle for discipleship and where each of us has the opportunity to participate in the mission of Mars Hill. As outposts for the gospel, our groups actively participate in the life of the city, blessing their neighbors and sharing the gospel.
