“Whatever you do, work heartily. . . . You are serving the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23–24
At some point you have probably been required to do something at which you weren’t skilled. From playing a different position on a team, to working on a school assignment or helping out around the house, there are countless things we are asked to do that we’re not good at.
We must be willing to serve outside of our areas of giftedness and talent, including for the local church. There will be times when the church has a particular need. You may not be the most gifted or talented person to do the job, but God may be calling you to help for a time. Whatever we do, we have an opportunity to do it for God, to glorify him.
The church is like a family. We are brothers and sisters in Christ. As a family, we pitch in to help as needed. So, serve where you’re needed, even if it’s only for a time. And do so joyfully.

- What work and love do you show “serving the saints” that it feels like is most often overlooked by others? What is it like to hear that God sees it? (v. 10)
- We want everyone to serve with this earnestness and the “full assurance of hope.” How will you be able to encourage others in this? (v. 11)
- How can you overcome sluggishness to take on faith and patience in this work? (v. 12)
Prayer
Thank God for how he perfectly gifts. Ask God for the Spirit’s discernment to see opportunities where you can best serve the saints.
