424 reasons to celebrate: A snapshot of what Jesus did at Easter 2013

Easter Sunday at Mars Hill Church was an incredible day of grace, unity, and provision from God that exceeded all expectations. To all who participated to help make it happen, thank you for loving Jesus and serving Jesus’ people!

I prayed we’d have 5,000 for Good Friday, and we had over 7,000. I prayed we would have 20,000 for Easter, and we had over 21,000. Over 50,000 people from at least 135 nations tuned in online. Our team pulled together across all our churches. Jesus was glorified; we made much of him! It was a long, tiring weekend, but it’s a great kind of tiriring as we did something that counts. People’s eternal fates were changed, which could lead to new legacies of faith for generations to come.

Here is a snapshot from the day, with stats compiled by our executive pastor, Sutton Turner:

  • 21,174 people in attendance (18,265 adults and 2,909 kids)
  • 424 people baptized, with over half, 231, spontaneous!
  • Two churches, Bellevue and Downtown Seattle, had over 3,000 in attendance
  • One church, Ballard, had over 2,000 in attendance
  • Nine total churches had over 1,000 people in attendance
  • Special shout out to Portland (1,357 people) and Olympia (632 people)—a huge days for both of these churches!
  • Almost 8,000 people signed up for a Connect Account online over the last three days
  • 265 copies of Citizens’ self-titled album given away to newcomers
  • 5,446 photos taken by volunteer photographers
  • 126 times I said “Jesus” in a 30-minute sermon
  • 2,816 Easter coloring books handed out to kids
  • 319 total songs sung

Thanks to an army of volunteers led by our dedicated staff, the whole event was well documented. We’re rebroadcasting the service on demand at marshill.com/easter. You can check out all of the photos online as well (here’s a photo essay with highlights).

For those who got baptized—congratulations!

For those who are new to Mars Hill Church—welcome!

For those who volunteered on Easter—thank you!

For those who are part of the Mars Hill family—thank you for helping us care for all of the new people God has brought to our church! As Easter guests return for a second visit, introduce yourself, invite them to your Community Group, answer their questions, help them see that Jesus is alive and at work 365 days a year.

Praise God! He has invited us to do something truly amazing, Mars Hill Church. Thank you for being a part of it.

It's All About Jesus

Jesus was a man who claimed to be God. Think on that for a minute. If that were true, how would it change the way you thought, felt, and lived this life?

At Mars Hill, we believe that Jesus is God. We take him at his word. Because of this, everything we do is all about Jesus. We invite you to learn more about this man who is God and how you can find forgiveness and new life in him.

What to Expect

Visiting a church for the first time can be nerve-racking. But having an idea of what to expect can help. There are three main parts to every Sunday service: preaching, worship, and kids. To learn more about each of these, click the links below.

We value community

Church is more than a service. It’s people living life together and helping one another throughout our cities to serve our cities. Each week, thousands of people at Mars Hill meet in hundreds of small communities to learn about God, pray, eat, laugh, and live. We call these Community Groups—and they’re the heart of our church.

Cheerful givers wanted

Jesus is the most generous person who ever lived. He gave his life so that we might live. As Christians, we give our time, talent, and money joyfully in response to Jesus’ generosity and to help more people meet Jesus.
