Werku’s prayer: A story from Ethiopia, part 6

Pastor Werku Golle has been serving Jesus for a long time and has a huge heart for Ethiopians to meet Christ and see churches planted in Ethiopia.

Mars Hill has featured him in a handful of videos and stories, so we thought we’d give a little background on our friend. He was born in Dilla, Ethiopia, where he received his elementary and high school education. His theological education was attained at multiple training centers in South Korea, England, and Israel. He has been the director of Evangelism Ministries development program at Gedeo Zone Kale Heywot Church for the past 36 years.

For over 13 years, Pastor Werku has been the founder and director of the Kale Heywot Church Ministry Training College. This college in Dilla is a national ministry training college for all Kale Heywot Churches Ethiopia.

There are 13.5 million Evangelical Christians in Ethiopia, and Pastor Werku is one of the men leading the charge to plant churches and teach people about Jesus. He preaches from the Bible, baptizes people, loves Jesus, and is complementarian in his theology.

Not unlike Paul, he was imprisoned for his faith for over 13 months during the former communist regime. His love for Jesus and the people of Ethiopia did not waver and he has continued to plant churches in the deepest parts of his country.

Pastor Werku has been married to his lovely bride, Hallelujah, for 37 years. They have eight children: three sons and five daughters.

We look forward to seeing how God continues to use this great man of God in the coming years.

It's All About Jesus

Jesus was a man who claimed to be God. Think on that for a minute. If that were true, how would it change the way you thought, felt, and lived this life?

At Mars Hill, we believe that Jesus is God. We take him at his word. Because of this, everything we do is all about Jesus. We invite you to learn more about this man who is God and how you can find forgiveness and new life in him.

What to Expect

Visiting a church for the first time can be nerve-racking. But having an idea of what to expect can help. There are three main parts to every Sunday service: preaching, worship, and kids. To learn more about each of these, click the links below.

The Mars Hill Guide Leadership at Mars Hill

We value community

Church is more than a service. It’s people living life together and helping one another throughout our cities to serve our cities. Each week, thousands of people at Mars Hill meet in hundreds of small communities to learn about God, pray, eat, laugh, and live. We call these Community Groups—and they’re the heart of our church.

Jesus is the most generous person who ever lived. He gave his life so that we might live. As Christians, we give our time, talent, and money joyfully in response to Jesus’ generosity and to help more people meet Jesus.
