The ‘Mediator’ music video

Don’t be fooled—drum sets, tambourines, and banjos aren’t found on most Seattle rooftops. Just the ones Ghost Ship visits.

The seven-piece band climbed more than a few flights of stairs to the top of Mars Hil Downtown Seattle to bring you their latest music video for “Mediator,” off their new album, The Good King. As band leader Pastor Cam Huxford wrote earlier, the song is a sequel to their popular song “One God” from the previous EP, and based off of 1 Timothy 2:5–6:

“With ‘Mediator,’ I really wanted to write a song that flowed exactly like the passage flows because there is no way I could write this as well as Paul did. He hits four huge concepts so concisely that it blows me away every time: Jesus is God, Jesus is our mediator, Jesus died for us, and Jesus is the ransom for all.

“But my favorite part of the passage is when it culminates, crescendos, ascends to its pinnacle with these four words: ‘the man Christ Jesus.’ Paul’s words reach their crest at Jesus.”

Throwbacks

If you’ve just discovered Ghost Ship and wanna dig through all their stuff, here are a couple throwback videos, along with pieces Pastor Cam wrote about what’s behind them.

Here’s a testimonial piece, “How to Build a God,” from Pastor Cam on the block of wood he used to worship: his guitar.

“The heart of man is proud. We find created things to worship rather than the Creator God. We make good things into god things. We build idols for ourselves that prove to be ridiculous. Here’s my story of such foolishness.”

This is “Poison Tree,” off A River with No End, along with Pastor Cam’s story of what was behind the lyrics:

“Before I met Jesus, I was a bad tree. To put it more plainly, I was a bad person. I was not, as some might say, a good person who did bad things. I was just plain bad. There wasn’t some hidden potential goodness deep down. My badness ran deep and my sinful nature went all the way down to the roots. You could tell I was a bad tree because I bore bad fruit. That is to say, I did a lot of really evil things that hurt a lot of people. I left a wake of destruction everywhere I went. As Jesus said, good trees don’t bear bad fruit and bad trees don’t bear good fruit. It’s as simple as that.”

This tree bears strange fruit
There’s blood on the leaves, it’s dead at the roots
The cracked gray branches are decaying within
Just like the black poison that hangs from its limbs

Come and dig me up, reach down to the roots
Rip the deadness out, and plant something completely new

It's All About Jesus

Jesus was a man who claimed to be God. Think on that for a minute. If that were true, how would it change the way you thought, felt, and lived this life?

At Mars Hill, we believe that Jesus is God. We take him at his word. Because of this, everything we do is all about Jesus. We invite you to learn more about this man who is God and how you can find forgiveness and new life in him.

We value community

Church is more than a service. It’s people living life together and helping one another throughout our cities to serve our cities. Each week, thousands of people at Mars Hill meet in hundreds of small communities to learn about God, pray, eat, laugh, and live. We call these Community Groups—and they’re the heart of our church.
