“Those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.” Acts 2:41
God has done amazing things—there’s no doubt about it. He caused a whale to swallow Jonah. He showed up in a burning bush. And let’s not forget he made a donkey talk. But arguably, one of God’s greatest miracles appears in the passage above, where we read in Verse 41 that three thousand people were saved in one day.
When someone trusts Jesus for the forgiveness of their sins and chooses to follow him, it’s a true miracle because the human heart doesn’t naturally love God all by itself. Instead, it loves to be selfish, ruling its own little kingdom of self. We enjoy making ourselves look good more than making God look good. Self-focused love is worthless, but Jesus is worthy.
And that’s exactly what today’s Scripture passage demonstrates. Three thousand people! God moved in such a way that they heard the message of the gospel and responded in a massive way. Sometimes God works in big ways, just as this scene portrays. Peter was faithful to preach the message, and that is all we are responsible for—simply being faithful to share the best news in the world and leaving the results to God.
Let’s pray that God would continue to save large numbers of people, just as he did on this great day.

Prayer
Father, thank you that you save. Thank you that you have power that we do not. We simply want to be faithful to share your message. Give us this boldness. Oh, how we need it! Thank you for your plan to use us in bringing those who are lost back to you. We love you. Amen.
