Stories from around Mars Hill, 9/10/13

Fall is often our busiest time at Mars Hill Church. As we get ready for this season and a new sermon series on the Ten Commandments, We want to share a couple of great stories of Jesus changing people over the past few weeks.

  • Mars Hill West Seattle has been having barbecue and baptism events at Alki Beach this summer. Recently, 350 people attended the event and 17 were baptized (almost every one of them was spontaneous). Two of those in attendance were young Latino gang members who happened to be at the beach. After hearing people give their testimonies and Pastor David Fairchild preach, they decided to get baptized.
  • Despite many people being gone on vacation this summer, Mars Hill Olympia has had a lot of new people visit their church. Recently, one of the new couples asked Jesus to save them. At their Best Potluck Ever event in Yauger Park, five people were baptized.
  • Also, a couple from Mars Hill Olympia were saved shortly after Easter and have invited unsaved friends to church every week since their conversion. A couple they recently invited met with the post-service prayer team and surrendered all to Jesus. Please pray for them as they are now facing persecution from family members for following Jesus.
  • Mars Hill Ballard and Mars Hill U-District partnered together for a barbecue and baptisms event at Golden Gardens Park. 330 people showed up and 22 people were baptized.
  • A single mom who has been stripping for a living came to Mars Hill Federal Way with one of her relatives. She admitted her lifestyle has been destroying her on the inside. After attending a few Sunday services, she asked Jesus to save her. Praise Jesus for his good news and good work in the lives of people.
  • During July and August, Mars Hill Shoreline baptized 32 people. One of the men baptized was a former mixed martial arts fighter who just happened to be walking by one of their beach events. He heard the message and knew God was calling him to be baptized. He said Jesus has been pursuing him for years, but he’s been fighting him. He says that he’s found peace and joy at last.
  • We visited Ethiopia last month to deliver Amharic Bibles to a pastors conference and to connect with the 20 Ethiopian church planters we support. We were interviewing one of the church planters about what Jesus was doing in his town and via an interpreter he stated, very matter of fact, that he prays for all of Ethiopia on his six-hour walk to preach every Sunday. We had to stop the interpreter and ask, “Did he just say he walks six hours to preach?” He said yes, he walks six hours to preach and then six hours back home.

Thank you Jesus for working in the lives of our brothers and sisters in Christ and for bringing new people into the family.

It's All About Jesus

Jesus was a man who claimed to be God. Think on that for a minute. If that were true, how would it change the way you thought, felt, and lived this life?

At Mars Hill, we believe that Jesus is God. We take him at his word. Because of this, everything we do is all about Jesus. We invite you to learn more about this man who is God and how you can find forgiveness and new life in him.

What to Expect

Visiting a church for the first time can be nerve-racking. But having an idea of what to expect can help. There are three main parts to every Sunday service: preaching, worship, and kids. To learn more about each of these, click the links below.

We value community

Church is more than a service. It’s people living life together and helping one another throughout our cities to serve our cities. Each week, thousands of people at Mars Hill meet in hundreds of small communities to learn about God, pray, eat, laugh, and live. We call these Community Groups—and they’re the heart of our church.
