Finding a home for Mars Hill Phoenix

Last week, Pastor Ryan Welsh gave us an update on how things are going on the ground at Mars Hill Phoenix. This week, I wanted to share some of the big vision for the church, and let you know their first Sunday gathering is happening this coming Sunday! Invite your friends and family as it should be a blast.

Pastor Mark, Pastor Sutton, and I recently flew down to Phoenix, AZ to meet with Lead Pastor Ryan and scope out a new location for the soon-to-be Mars Hill church. We’re really excited as this will mark the fifth state to have a Mars Hill church in it.

Pastor Ryan and Pastor Mark had a good number of laughs along the way.

It was also really encouraging to hear Pastor Ryan’s heart for the church and city:

We are so excited to have our first meeting next Sunday! All the work is well worth the many lives that we know Jesus will change in Phoenix. We are currently training 43 community group leaders and there's a lot of excitement from our potential leaders to start serving their communities that are spread all over the valley. It was a blessing to have Pastor Mark, Pastor Sutton, and Pastor Dave in the area to hear their vision and help find a location to start meeting in.

The team drove around the city looking at a number of potential places for the church the meet. We shot a lot of video, which our creative team will be putting together to show to you guys.

The core group is currently meeting in Downtown Phoenix in the Bentley Projects (the building here in all the pics). This would be a prime location for the church in the heart of the city. Bentley Projects houses Bentley Gallery an internationally renowned contemporary art gallery. All work shown in the pictures is copy right protected by the respective artists.

Phoenix is a huge opportunity for the gospel to go forth as the city has over 500 square miles of land with over 4 million people. With a city this large, this first church could serve as a hub to plant out future Mars Hill churches in the region (NW Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, SE Phoenix).

The Grand Opening of the church will happen on January 12 alonside the kick-off for our sermon series on the book of James. Don't miss the first gathering this coming Sunday, and please invite your friends and family. We're praying for 400 people to show up!

Here are the details:

It's All About Jesus

Jesus was a man who claimed to be God. Think on that for a minute. If that were true, how would it change the way you thought, felt, and lived this life?

At Mars Hill, we believe that Jesus is God. We take him at his word. Because of this, everything we do is all about Jesus. We invite you to learn more about this man who is God and how you can find forgiveness and new life in him.

What to Expect

Visiting a church for the first time can be nerve-racking. But having an idea of what to expect can help. There are three main parts to every Sunday service: preaching, worship, and kids. To learn more about each of these, click the links below.

The Mars Hill Guide Leadership at Mars Hill

We value community

Church is more than a service. It’s people living life together and helping one another throughout our cities to serve our cities. Each week, thousands of people at Mars Hill meet in hundreds of small communities to learn about God, pray, eat, laugh, and live. We call these Community Groups—and they’re the heart of our church.

Jesus is the most generous person who ever lived. He gave his life so that we might live. As Christians, we give our time, talent, and money joyfully in response to Jesus’ generosity and to help more people meet Jesus.
