An unordinary day

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16–17

The word “holy” means to set something apart. To make it special. To make it different. To make it unordinary. That is how God wants us to treat the day of worship. It should be different from the other days of the week. We should rest, but we should also focus on God and his Word.

So, if at all possible, we shouldn’t skip church, because church is one of the ways that we grow as a disciple. And without it, we would be weak spiritually. This is because the Spirit shapes us through the hearing of God’s Word. In addition, when we sing to God together, it helps us unite with other believers. And when we gather, we get to relate to one another in loving relationship, which God has created us for.

For these reasons, it is wise for us to set apart the day of worship in our minds and hearts as holy to the Lord.

Questions

  • What are some of the benefits of knowing God’s Word?
  • How do you see a difference in your relationship with God when you regularly listen to the preaching of the Word?

Pray

Father, thank you for giving us the words of life in the Bible. Thank you that you have shown us the importance of regularly listening to it being preached. May we make Sundays holy to you. May you use it to grow us into disciples who love you with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

It's All About Jesus

Jesus was a man who claimed to be God. Think on that for a minute. If that were true, how would it change the way you thought, felt, and lived this life?

At Mars Hill, we believe that Jesus is God. We take him at his word. Because of this, everything we do is all about Jesus. We invite you to learn more about this man who is God and how you can find forgiveness and new life in him.

What to Expect

Visiting a church for the first time can be nerve-racking. But having an idea of what to expect can help. There are three main parts to every Sunday service: preaching, worship, and kids. To learn more about each of these, click the links below.

We value community

Church is more than a service. It’s people living life together and helping one another throughout our cities to serve our cities. Each week, thousands of people at Mars Hill meet in hundreds of small communities to learn about God, pray, eat, laugh, and live. We call these Community Groups—and they’re the heart of our church.
