Stories from around Mars Hill, 11/21/13

Below are some of the most exciting stories I’ve heard in the last week of people repenting of their sin and being saved by Jesus.

  • At Mars Hill Bellevue, a man asked Pastor Matt Rogers for help finding a Community Group. Pastor Matt could tell he was hurting so he pulled him aside to talk. The man broke down and admitted he had cheated on his fiancé. As he listened to the sermon that Sunday, he realized he was a liar and was not the good person he had deluded himself into thinking he was. The gospel made sense to him for the first time. He said he wanted to give his life to Jesus, that he had no hope without him, and he couldn’t do it on his own. He wants to get baptized and find a Community Group to learn more about growing in Christ.
  • A man at Mars Hill Huntington Beach has been struggling for years with growing up in the church, assuming he was a Christian but knowing he was faking it. He’s been going to a Community Group for a couple of months, and recently, the men in the group were able to recognize he felt great conviction over his sin. He agreed that he was convicted and had a desire to change. They asked him if he would like to accept Jesus right then and he said yes! The man asked Jesus to save him and his friends prayed over him.
  • A man who is covered in tattoos and piercings was told by a pastor when he was younger that he didn’t belong in a church. His sister attends Mars Hill Ballard and has invited him to come with her to church. After months of putting it off, he finally relented and came to church with her. His first Sunday, he was met by a greeter who shook his hand and said, “Welcome. Good to have you.” From that moment, he knew he was accepted and hasn’t missed a Sunday since. Recently, he asked Jesus to save him and was baptized!
  • A man in his forties has been going to Mars Hill U-District for a couple months. Recently, he was baptized and told Pastor Drew Hensley, “I’ve been separated from my family and haven’t seen them for 20 years, but for the first time, I feel like I’ve found family through this church.” Praise God for the man’s new family he has through Jesus.
  • A man at Mars Hill Everett was invited to church by someone in a Community Group. He asked for prayer, so Pastor Ryan Williams and a few guys sat down with him to hear his story. He told them he’s asked Satan to possess him and send demons into his life for years. It hasn’t turned out very well as he is being tormented and is terrified of his house, lives in constant fear, and feels demonically oppressed. Pastor Ryan laid out the gospel for him, focusing on how Jesus is his Christus Victor. He told the man he needed to repent and be filled with the Holy Spirit. He repented of his sin and by God’s grace asked Jesus to save him.

I give thanks daily for the lives that Jesus has changed at Mars Hill Church and pray he would continue to do so for generations come.

We love hearing how Jesus changes lives. If you also want to share your story with us or read more stories, head over to our stories page.

It's All About Jesus

Jesus was a man who claimed to be God. Think on that for a minute. If that were true, how would it change the way you thought, felt, and lived this life?

At Mars Hill, we believe that Jesus is God. We take him at his word. Because of this, everything we do is all about Jesus. We invite you to learn more about this man who is God and how you can find forgiveness and new life in him.

What to Expect

Visiting a church for the first time can be nerve-racking. But having an idea of what to expect can help. There are three main parts to every Sunday service: preaching, worship, and kids. To learn more about each of these, click the links below.

We value community

Church is more than a service. It’s people living life together and helping one another throughout our cities to serve our cities. Each week, thousands of people at Mars Hill meet in hundreds of small communities to learn about God, pray, eat, laugh, and live. We call these Community Groups—and they’re the heart of our church.
