Tyndale and Resurgence Publishing recently released Pastor Dave Bruskas’ first book, Dear Son: A Father’s Advice on Being a Man.
Perhaps the most arresting part of the production of this book is the fact that when Pastor Dave talks about his son, he’s talking about a young man he never got to see grow out of infancy. David Michael Bruskas died of a congenital heart defect when he was only two months old.
Pastor Dave dreamed his whole life of raising a son. Blessed with four daughters he obviously delights in, he never lost the desire to bring up a godly son. This lifelong desire took an unexpected turn after his son died. Pastor Dave found himself surrounded by young men who lacked a godly father. Everything he would have invested in his son, Pastor Dave found himself investing in the lives of these young men. The wisdom, the advice, the guidance he would have given his son was now going to men who were, in a sense, Pastor Dave’s spiritual sons.
This book is an outgrowth of the calling to teach and train men. Between its covers are a series of letters containing what Pastor Dave would say to his son were he alive today. This insight is made widely available to men and women—anybody anywhere who needs a father’s words.
