Everyday grace: how Jesus is changing lives, part 3

Jesus changes lives. Jesus makes people new. Jesus redeems legacies and steps in to completely and utterly transform people.

Some of these people have been sharing online how Jesus has used Mars Hill to change them, save them, and give them life and hope. Jesus is perfect and does perfect work, even through imperfect people and churches like Mars Hill. Nobody is off limits for Jesus. He already loves you in the most lavish way. He changed the lives here; he can change yours.

Some of these posts and pictures have been re-posted here, with permission, for your encouragement. Share what Jesus has done in your life through Mars Hill using #changedlives or share your story with us online at marshill.com/stories.

“It’s all about Jesus.”

“Through Mark’s teaching at Mars Hill Church my understanding of the Bible and my appreciation for it has grown and changed. Mark’s ability to give historical background and context to each sermon helps me to understand and believe the Bible in ways I never had before. I’ve become a better wife, mom, and daughter through attending Mars Hill. I’ve been able to share the worst of me with Mars Hill members and I’ve been accepted, loved, and uplifted by them. It’s all about Jesus.”

“We joined Mars Hill in 2012 when Sammamish was new and then were at Shoreline since summer of 2013. I have received nothing but constant blessing and solid Bible teaching at Mars Hill. I am incredibly grateful for this church and the teaching of Pastor Mark Driscoll, Pastor Alex Ghioni, Pastor Steve Tompkins, Pastor Aaron Gray, and many others. We love you Mars Hill and Pastor Mark and we support your ministry.”

“Jesus was always glorified.”

“I am not currently attending, but I do love Mars Hill and still have a heart for the people at Ballard. I met a handful of people at Mars Hill when I was a hardline Atheist. For many years I held to a very low view of the Christian faith, and how nominal Christians conducted their lives, given that nominal Christianity is what I had generally been exposed to. However, the people at Mars Hill stood out. I had never been exposed to a community that was so fully devoted to Jesus, and living their lives to show honor and glory to him. It was interesting to me to be around a group that you could almost relate to on a worldly level, but at the same time be so set apart from it. People were open about the harder things in life, people loved one another, women were treated and talked about with honor, and Jesus was always glorified.

“Eventually I got saved at Mars Hill, and baptized. Mark’s teaching was/is solid and hard-hitting and challenging. Conforming ourselves to the image of Christ is tremendously challenging to the identities and lives we set up apart from him. Without being challenged, you won’t be changed. For that, I’m thankful to Mark for his teaching and his very clear and unapologetic presentation of the gospel, and how he challenged those who he was/is leading. I am also very thankful for those who have been encouraged and unapologetically outspoken for Jesus due to Mark’s leadership and Mars Hill Church. I will continue to pray for Mark and his family, as well as Mars Hill.”

“Since coming to Mars Hill, my life has changed dramatically with the teachings of Mark Driscoll and the family at Mars Hill Portland. My relationship with the Lord has grown so much. My Community Group family has been there with me through some pretty tough times and I’m blessed to be a part of this group.”

“I relearned the gospel during my time in Seattle.”

“I was an intern at Mars Hill for a year, and while I have been back in the Midwest for a while now I still remember Seattle and Mars Hill fondly. It has been hard to watch people that I love fall on different sides of this whole thing. I don’t really know where I stand at this point. But I do know this: when I started my internship I expected to get to know Mark. This didn’t happen. Rather I met hundreds of amazing people who I came to love dearly. When I look back at my time at Mars Hill, I never think about Driscoll. I think about the friends that I made at Ballard (and even a few other campuses). It’s not about Mark . . . It’s all about Jesus. I relearned the gospel during my time in Seattle, and not through teaching from the pulpit, but through the love that you all showed me. Thanks for that.”

It's All About Jesus

Jesus was a man who claimed to be God. Think on that for a minute. If that were true, how would it change the way you thought, felt, and lived this life?

At Mars Hill, we believe that Jesus is God. We take him at his word. Because of this, everything we do is all about Jesus. We invite you to learn more about this man who is God and how you can find forgiveness and new life in him.

What to Expect

Visiting a church for the first time can be nerve-racking. But having an idea of what to expect can help. There are three main parts to every Sunday service: preaching, worship, and kids. To learn more about each of these, click the links below.

We value community

Church is more than a service. It’s people living life together and helping one another throughout our cities to serve our cities. Each week, thousands of people at Mars Hill meet in hundreds of small communities to learn about God, pray, eat, laugh, and live. We call these Community Groups—and they’re the heart of our church.
