Stories from around Mars Hill, 6/18/13

At Mars Hill Church, we love more than anything to see Jesus save people. But we also love when Jesus changes hearts and people want to love and serve others. Community is a huge part of what we focus on at Mars Hill. This week, I’ve heard stories of both people being saved and community rallying together to help their brothers and sisters.

  • Last week at Mars Hill U-District, Pastor Drew met a man who is divorced with a teenage son. He’s been dealing with the pain in his life from using drugs and alcohol. He recently got a DUI with his son in the car. The episode made him realize he was ruining his life. Pastor Drew was able to present the gospel to him, and the man asked Jesus to save him! He knows he may lose custody of his son, but said that he’s willing to suffer that if it means he can point his son to a life lived with Jesus.
  • Mars Hill Sammamish hosted a foster/adoption training last week. It was encouraging to see many couples from Mars Hill consider opening their home to children who don’t have a suitable and safe place to grow up. Foster adoption is not an easy road for these couples. Motivated by the gospel and their own adoption by the heavenly Father, they are putting their hearts and homes on the line for the sake of loving children whom God loves.
  • A family from out of state started going to Mars Hill U-District when they temporarily relocated to Seattle six months ago. They moved because they found out their unborn daughter was having heart problems. Their daughter was born two and a half months ago and immediately went into heart surgery. Last Thursday she received a new, strong heart and is doing well. They have found the U-District church to be their family away from home during this time.
  • Mars Hill Federal Way has a large military population attending their church. Recently a sailor visited and filled out a Connect Card requesting more information about Christianity. Pastor Paul called him and shared the gospel with him. The man repented of his sins and trusted in Jesus for salvation!
  • Last week, one of the kids from the student ministry at Mars Hill Rainier Valley rode his bike to church. When it was time for him to go home, he had problems with his bike chain coming off. Doug, the facilities lead, said to him, “Uh oh, you better get your dad to fix that.” The kid said, “I don’t have a dad.” Doug said, “Well, let me help you.” Doug stopped what he was doing to help the kid tighten the chain. It was a great picture of God’s mission in Rainier Valley: being a father to the fatherless.

Praise Jesus for the Holy Spirit working in people’s lives and changing hearts!

It's All About Jesus

Jesus was a man who claimed to be God. Think on that for a minute. If that were true, how would it change the way you thought, felt, and lived this life?

At Mars Hill, we believe that Jesus is God. We take him at his word. Because of this, everything we do is all about Jesus. We invite you to learn more about this man who is God and how you can find forgiveness and new life in him.

What to Expect

Visiting a church for the first time can be nerve-racking. But having an idea of what to expect can help. There are three main parts to every Sunday service: preaching, worship, and kids. To learn more about each of these, click the links below.

We value community

Church is more than a service. It’s people living life together and helping one another throughout our cities to serve our cities. Each week, thousands of people at Mars Hill meet in hundreds of small communities to learn about God, pray, eat, laugh, and live. We call these Community Groups—and they’re the heart of our church.
