Breaking Free from Strongholds: Eric Mason sermon recap

Dr. Eric Mason came out to Seattle from his church in Philadelphia to preach the final sermon in our Best Sermon Ever series. Mars Hill helped support Epiphany Fellowship for many years, and now he serves on the leadership of the Acts 29 church-planting network. Dr. Mason preached “Breaking Free from Strongholds” out of 2 Corinthians 4:7–12 and Judges 6:11–14, 25–27. Here are some of the highlights.

  • If you can get yourself saved, you don’t need saving. Salvation is about God coming after people who couldn’t come after him.
  • God’ll use all kinds of crazy, twisted people, but God untwists them, and unbinds them. What’s beautiful about being in Christ is it’s a consistent road of being untwisted.
  • Jesus Christ didn’t just come to judge your mess. He’s come now to give you life and life more abundantly, to give you a relationship that you never had with him, never had with God through him. And God’s wrath is satisfied on the cross so that our mess, past, present, and future, was placed on him. And when the wrath of God was poured out on him, our mess was dealt with in the sense of eternal penalty.

It's All About Jesus

Jesus was a man who claimed to be God. Think on that for a minute. If that were true, how would it change the way you thought, felt, and lived this life?

At Mars Hill, we believe that Jesus is God. We take him at his word. Because of this, everything we do is all about Jesus. We invite you to learn more about this man who is God and how you can find forgiveness and new life in him.

We value community

Church is more than a service. It’s people living life together and helping one another throughout our cities to serve our cities. Each week, thousands of people at Mars Hill meet in hundreds of small communities to learn about God, pray, eat, laugh, and live. We call these Community Groups—and they’re the heart of our church.
