“You shall not commit adultery.” Exodus 20:14
The principle behind this commandment is that God desires his people to be free from sexual sin. Every type of sexual immorality, including the sins of the heart, mind, and body, fall into this category. Not only are we to be a people free of sexual sin, we should be actively pursuing sexual purity at all times. Everything about our sexuality should stand as an act of worship—and praise God it can!
Questions
- How are you tempted to sin sexually? How can you turn this temptation into an act of worship?
- What areas of sexual temptation are you minimizing by not recognizing them as sin?
- How can you encourage others to be sexually pure? How would you like to be encouraged in this area?
- Have you struggled with discontentment in your sexuality? How could this become worship?
- God obviously places a high priority on sexual purity—it is a good thing he created, and he doesn’t want it defiled. If we don’t see sex as a good and pure thing in marriage, we aren’t seeing it as God does. How has your view of sexuality not been worshipful?
Prayer
Thank you, Lord, for the gift of our sexuality. We desire to use this gift in a way that honors you. Help us to see sex purely and rightly so that we may worship you in our sexuality. Keep us from the deceit of sin in this area. Do not allow us to become seduced by lies about what is pure and what isn’t. May your Spirit help us to be ever watchful, and guard our hearts, minds, and bodies. Amen.
