Lord, we know that you came, not to be served but to serve and give yourself as a ransom for many. In the same way, may the body at Mars Hill Phoenix live as servants, modeling your humility and love for others. We ask that you would raise up 60 volunteers for the launch on January 12. Additionally, please establish ten community groups to welcome those who will be coming into the body upon its launch. Lord, give me a heart to serve your body through involvement in community groups.
God, you know that the Phoenix area was one of the hardest hit during the recent housing crisis. Thousands lost their homes and tens of thousands are still underwater, owing more on their houses than they are currently worth. Most will probably never break even. So many people have no hope of recovery. They are looking for answers, for hope that goes well beyond their personal welfare, hope that can only be found in relationship with you. They just don’t know it yet.
We praise you, God, because you have given us the answer for those who are hopeless, anxious, and facing financial insecurity. In relationship with you we find our hope, our peace, our security.
It is no mistake that Mars Hill is launching in Phoenix in 2014, Lord. Your timing is always perfect, and as we launch Mars Hill Phoenix, you tell us to pray for the welfare of the city (Jer. 29:7). So we pray for it now, Lord. Heal the city of Phoenix. Send the hundreds of people who will call Mars Hill home out into our communities to be on mission with you. God, we plead with you on behalf of the 4 million people who call the “Valley of the Sun” home. Draw them to yourself so that they would find their hope, welfare, and peace in you.
