On February 18th, the student ministry at Mars Hill Church unveiled a new name and a new identity. We’ve had teenagers across all our locations begging for a name they could get excited about!
So we are excited to announce, that what was formerly known as ‘Mars Hill Students’ is now ‘Mars Hill RED,’ or ‘RED’ for short. This is a strategic move to make the student movement at Mars Hill something that is known in the high schools and middle schools our young people attend.
Our reasons for this change are three-fold:
RED is invitational. It is counter-productive (and a mouthful) for a student to invite a friend along to “Mars Hill Student Ministry.” Even inviting a friend to “Students” gives the impression of a school-based institution, rather than an exciting movement that is all about Jesus. On the other hand, “RED” is simple, invitational, memorable, and intriguing.
RED creates a tribal identity for our young people. More so than any other demographic, students are cause-driven; because of their drive for acceptance at this stage of their life, they crave something beyond themselves to belong to. Essentially, we are creating a tribe within the wider Mars Hill family that students can belong to, invite others to, and in which they can be specifically trained as student missionaries.
RED embodies the message of the gospel. A bloody cross. A redeemed identity. A message to tell. This is what RED is all about.
We want young people everywhere to know that RED is a movement of high school and junior high students across Mars Hill Church who are all about Jesus and live to make his name known.
All our student ministry locations meet every Wednesday from 6:30–9 p.m. with the exception of Bellevue, which meets on Tuesday nights.
If you are the parent of a 6th–12th grader at Mars Hill, we want to come alongside you and serve your family by providing a community where your teenager can bring their friends, open their Bibles, open their lives, and be equipped to live out their faith in the mission field of their school. Join the movement!
