This post is based on a blog written by Pastor Ryan Kearns last year concerning the purpose of the Lead Pastor Residency program at Mars Hill Church.
Why: Raising up leaders
The Lead Pastor Residency is headed into its third year because the mission of Mars Hill Church, the mission God has called us to, is to make disciples and plant churches. That requires leaders, great leaders. This is the entire reason we have a Lead Pastor Residency program.
It’s hugely important for us as a church to make sure we are doing all we can to invest in the men who will lead the charge and shepherd God’s people at every local Mars Hill church. Be in prayer that the right men would apply, be accepted, and complete the program. Pray for their protection, their growth, and their bond with each other and the church. The residency is designed to impart skills and training, as well as to forge that bond and passion among our residents for the church.
What: Learning by doing
This year will be the Lead Pastor Residency program’s third. Once again, residents will be placed with lead pastors at a handful of local Mars Hill churches. They’ll be given the unique role and challenge to shadow seasoned leaders, learning everything they can about being a lead pastor at Mars Hill. They’ll also receive regular mentoring and coaching with our executive elders and other ministry leaders.
The residency is a tool to ensure Mars Hill goes beyond a one-generation church. Pray for Pastor Dave Bruskas as he develops the residents to lead our church into the future.

If you have a track record of leading and being able to mobilize people, then you might be just the guy we are looking for.
Even if your experience is not just in church ministry, we would love to have you apply for our Lead Pastor Residency. If you feel God has gifted you to lead and develop leaders, you have two weeks left. Applications will be accepted until May 1. Time is getting short, so apply today.
