Mars Hill Schools Professor Profile: Dave Bruskas

Mars Hill Church is hosting Corban University and Western Seminary beginning this fall in Bellevue. The staff will include professors from both institutions as well as qualified pastors from around Mars Hill. One of these pastors, slated to teach a course titled Growing Disciples Intentionally, is Executive Elder Dave Bruskas.

Pastor Dave loves Jesus, loves people, and desires to be a spiritual father to those entrusted to his care. He brings his own unique approach to the staff. Executive Pastor Resident Ryan Sharp said of his teaching, “He is someone who has dealt deeply with the text, studied it, prayed through it, and meditated on it. When he teaches, he has a way of boiling down profound and complex topics into simple, yet practically applied truth. He teaches to not only the head, but also to the heart and hands. He wants biblical truth to stimulate the mind, enamor the heart, and motivate the hands to love God and love others by being on mission for Jesus in the world.”

We asked Pastor Dave to briefly answer a few questions about his history as a teacher and his upcoming role as professor.

What has your teaching experience been?

I have taught the Bible in the local church for 25 years and at ReTrain for several years. And many years ago, I even taught a preaching course for Oklahoma Baptist University in Seattle.

What do you love about teaching the Bible?

I love teaching about the person and work of Jesus. I especially enjoy that moment when a student realizes that Jesus is far greater than he or she ever realized before.

How can your experience in ministry help a student?

I have learned personally how foundational and practical the Bible is to everyday ministry. I find deep satisfaction in helping students grasp that they are sufficiently prepared for all ministry experiences they will ever face through the gospel applied in the power of the Holy Spirit.

What is your academic background?

I received an undergraduate degree in accounting from Texas Tech University and a master’s in theology from Dallas Theological Seminary.

It's All About Jesus

Jesus was a man who claimed to be God. Think on that for a minute. If that were true, how would it change the way you thought, felt, and lived this life?

At Mars Hill, we believe that Jesus is God. We take him at his word. Because of this, everything we do is all about Jesus. We invite you to learn more about this man who is God and how you can find forgiveness and new life in him.

What to Expect

Visiting a church for the first time can be nerve-racking. But having an idea of what to expect can help. There are three main parts to every Sunday service: preaching, worship, and kids. To learn more about each of these, click the links below.

We value community

Church is more than a service. It’s people living life together and helping one another throughout our cities to serve our cities. Each week, thousands of people at Mars Hill meet in hundreds of small communities to learn about God, pray, eat, laugh, and live. We call these Community Groups—and they’re the heart of our church.

Cheerful givers wanted

Jesus is the most generous person who ever lived. He gave his life so that we might live. As Christians, we give our time, talent, and money joyfully in response to Jesus’ generosity and to help more people meet Jesus.
