Stories from around Mars Hill, 10/1/13

We love seeing people get baptized! There’s nothing better then when a person acknowledges their sin and dependence on Jesus as their Savior and wants to publicly declare that though baptism. Many of the Mars Hill Churches have been doing baptisms this month, so I wanted to share a few of their stories.

  • Mars Hill Federal Way celebrated their fourth birthday recently by adding a fourth Sunday service and baptizing 14 people!
  • Mars Hill Portland had their first evening service recently with almost 160 people. Four people were baptized, including Executive Deacon Kevin Kelly’s son!
  • Pastor Adam Ramsey bought a car from a man a few months ago. He told him about Jesus and how he teaches the Bible to young people at Mars Hill. He invited him to church that following Sunday. The man has been attending Mars Hill every week since! He texted Adam recently to ask if he would baptize him as he publicly declared his faith in Christ!
  • Mars Hill Orange County baptized 13 people. Two different men came forward, got baptized, and then baptized their wives. A dad baptized his 12-year-old son. A brother baptized his recently converted sister. It’s always so good to see family baptizing family.
  • Recently, a couple from Mars Hill Olympia was saved by Jesus during a Sunday service. They were baptized two weeks ago. Please pray for them as they are now facing family members who will no longer speak with them because of their new faith in Jesus.
  • A woman from Mars Hill Downtown recently asked Jesus to save her. Her husband, who is in the military, married her even though she didn’t know Jesus. He was out on assignment when she felt called to be baptized. Even though he would miss it, she felt like she needed to do it as a declaration of her own faith. He was completely overjoyed to find out the next time they spoke on the phone.
  • Mars Hill Students recently threw a back to school event at Mars Hill Bellevue. Close to 900 students and leaders attended, and more than 30 students asked Jesus to save them. Pastor Adam Ramsey wrote a blog post on the event that you can read here.

Praise Jesus for these saved people brought from death to life!

Other things we’re excited about

  • A number of our churches started Financial Peace University this last weekend. It’s a biblically based course that teaches people how to handle their money. If you attend a Mars Hill Church, ask a leader if it’s available at your local church.
  • Dustin Kensrue, the Worship Pastor at Mars Hill Bellevue, just released a new album, The Water & The Blood, through Mars Hill Music. You can listen to the full album here

It's All About Jesus

Jesus was a man who claimed to be God. Think on that for a minute. If that were true, how would it change the way you thought, felt, and lived this life?

At Mars Hill, we believe that Jesus is God. We take him at his word. Because of this, everything we do is all about Jesus. We invite you to learn more about this man who is God and how you can find forgiveness and new life in him.

What to Expect

Visiting a church for the first time can be nerve-racking. But having an idea of what to expect can help. There are three main parts to every Sunday service: preaching, worship, and kids. To learn more about each of these, click the links below.

We value community

Church is more than a service. It’s people living life together and helping one another throughout our cities to serve our cities. Each week, thousands of people at Mars Hill meet in hundreds of small communities to learn about God, pray, eat, laugh, and live. We call these Community Groups—and they’re the heart of our church.

Jesus is the most generous person who ever lived. He gave his life so that we might live. As Christians, we give our time, talent, and money joyfully in response to Jesus’ generosity and to help more people meet Jesus.
