Do Not Commit Adultery: Sermon recap

This was another heavy sermon from Pastor Mark about the devastating sin of adultery. God rightly compares marriage to a vine. You’ve got to invest a lot, and you’ve got to wait a long time. You will need to be patient and tend to it if you want it to grow and be fruitful. Adultery is like a weed eater that carelessly severs the vine’s base, killing it in an instant.

  • “Do not commit adultery.” This is a very difficult sermon. But I pray God uses it to help a lot of people.
  • God’s people are like a bride and Jesus is like a groom. Christian marriage is pointing to something much bigger.
  • If you don’t get salvation covenant between Jesus and his church, you can’t get marriage covenant between a man and woman
  • Don’t go to the Bible looking for what you want. Go to the Bible looking for what God wants.
  • All sin is equally damning, but not all sin is equally devastating.
  • Relieved you’ve never committed adultery with your hands? Don’t forget that you have with your heart. Matt 5:27–28
  • Singles, sleeping around before you marry is not a way to prepare for fidelity in marriage.
  • Men, your manhood is not best expressed by conquering ladies, but by conquering your lust.
  • Married couples: fight for fidelity with freedom and frequency.
  • Before you cheat on your spouse you have to cheat on God first.
  • To conquer your biology, stop seeing people sexually and look at them as family. 1 Tim 5:1–2
  • Sexual purity requires both a passionate want-to and plan for how-to. Where do you need to set boundaries in your life?

Then Thomas, a photojournalist at the time, got assigned to photograph a young Pastor Mark for a newspaper feature.

Psalm 51: Cleanse Me Oh God
