As summer vacations slowly wind down, so does the annual Best Sermon Ever series at Mars Hill Church. Our final speaker, Dr. Larry Osborne, will be teaching the local churches this Sunday with his best sermon ever, "Accidental Pharisees.”
In this sermon, Dr. Osborne considers the “dark side of spiritual zeal.” While a passionate pursuit of God and holiness is a good thing, we must be on guard against our passion smothering our compassion, sending the message that God’s grace is only available to certain people. Don’t miss Dr. Osborne’s surprising contrast between the Pharisees’ elevation of rigid sacrifice over mercy and Jesus’ pursuit of unworthy people with promises of rest.
Dr. Osborne has been married for 35 years to his wife, Nancy. They have three children and three grandchildren. Dr. Osborne founded North Coast Church in 1980 with 120 people in a rented school building. Since then, it has grown to a multi-site congregation of more than 10,000 members. In addition to serving as the Senior and Teaching Pastor there, Dr. Osborne is a prolific author and conference speaker who mentors many pastors. He earned his M.Div. and doctorate from Talbot Theological Seminary and serves on Mars Hill’s Board of Advisors and Accountability.
