This September, in anticipation of Pastor Mark Driscoll’s sermon series Malachi: Living for a Legacy, Pastor Matt Wallace of Mars Hill Church Huntington Beach searched for an opportunity to serve the people in the immediate area surrounding Orangewood Academy in Garden Grove, California, the temporary home of Huntington Beach for more than a year. His sights settled on Clinton-Mendenhall Elementary, directly across the street from Orangewood Academy.
Mars Hill reached out to Clinton-Mendenhall and identified a need for school supplies in the classrooms of two first-year teachers at the school.
Thus, the Adopt-a-Classroom project was born.
The community groups at Mars Hill Huntington Beach rallied together to collect the required supplies.
Last week, Mars Hill Huntington Beach delivered 68 brand new backpacks stuffed with school supplies along with gifts and supplies for Danielle Rosas and Michael Young, the two first-year teachers.
More than 120 invitations to Mars Hill’s Christmas Eve service were included with the more than 4,400 pencils, crayons, markers, rulers, pens, and other school supplies.
Remember to pray for the families of the students who received the backpacks, particularly those who do not know Jesus.
Pray that they will see these gifts as extensions of Christ’s love.
Finally, pray that the recipients of the backpacks respond to invitations to join Mars Hill Church Huntington Beach in celebrating the greatest gift, Jesus, at the Christmas Eve service next week.
